Sleeping Help For Children

Helping Your Child To Sleep

Is your child sleeping well? Here we have some products and sleeping aids to help babies and children get to sleep. It is so important for children to get a good nights sleep, yet many do find it difficult to get to sleep in the first place.

A good routine and relaxation can help but sometimes its more than that.

It can be very distressing for parents and children and possibly other siblings if a child cannot sleep. I have done enough babysitting of my nieces and nephews and enough talking to their parents to know what a huge difference it makes if everyone gets a good sleep.

Lack of sleep can contribute to sleep deprived parents and children who cannot concentrate. Babies do need to learn and develop a sleep routine but if that doesn't happen there is help available.

There are many things that families can do to help a child who finds sleep difficult to come by. Here I have included some articles which inform and advise, some products to help and some ideas to try.

Gentle Sleep Sounds - Helping baby Sleep

Beautiful sounds to help baby drift away to sleep. We all know how important it is to fully relax before being able to drift off to sleep and these gentle sounds can help to put your baby into that state and also as they are listening to these tracks, minimise the effects of other sounds in the house.

Soothe and Glow Seahorse - Cuddle the seahorse and gentle sound and colour soothes.

Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Soothe and Glow Seahorse, Blue

This gorgeous seahorse will help to soothe your child. As your child cuddles the toy its belly glows and the music starts to play. There are eight lovely lullabies and soothing sea sounds. All sound and colour fade gradually to allow for your child to drift off to sleep.

Child's Sleep Environment.

It is very important that the sleep environment is right for your child. Your child's bedroom should be a place of comfort and calm. Just as in an adults bedroom it should be safe place to sleep and relax.

It is a good idea to check that the temperature in the room is right for the child not too hot or too cold.

Depending on the child low lighting may be helpful to help them feel safe. The bed should be comfortable and supportive.

Sounds should be those your baby finds soothing, for some this is just peace and quiet, for many it is a gentle musical sound or white noise. One of my nephews was very happy with the hoover going!

Ideally there should be no electrical or technological equipment in the room , or if there is that a clear policy is in place that they do not use it for say the last hour before lights out.

Also a calm and quiet predictable bedtime routine will help towards a wind down before bedtime. A soft toy is often a comfort to a child.

Of course these are ideals and sometimes family life is more difficult and chaotic but they are things to aim for to help a child who has difficulty sleeping. Do check out the links about settling a new baby and a toddler below which gives very helpful advice.
